Sveha Bread |
Flour - 4 cups |
Condensed Milk - 5 oz. |
Water - 1 cup |
Salt - 1/2 teaspoon |
Sugar - 1 teaspoon |
Yeast - 1 teaspoon (1 package) |
Margarine - 1/2 cup |
Mahlub (crushed) - 1/2 teaspoon |
Place all ingredients into a bowl or bread maker. Melt margarine in a pan or microwave. Add the milk and water to the margarine. Ensure liquid is not too hot otherwise it will kill the yeast. Add liquid gradually kneading as you go. Leave a small amount to pour over the dough one the kneading is finished. Cover bowl with a damp towel and let rise for two hours. (If using a bread maker, place all ingredients into the machine and select the manual mode to mix the dough, but not bake it.) |
Topping |
Onion - 1 1/2 cups finely chopped |
Green Pepper - 1/2 cup finely chopped |
Pine nuts - 1/2 cup (or a little more) |
Beef or lamb - 1 package (about a pound, lean) |
Tomato paste - 1 can |
Salt and pepper - to taste |
Sprinkle some flour on the table or cutting board. Divide the dough into balls (I make the balls about the size of a golf ball or slightly larger). Place the dough on the cutting board and roll out until it is about ¼ in thick. |
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix the mixture. Spread mixture on dough rounds no thicker than ¼ inch (raw mixture on raw bread). Place in over and bake about 15 minutes. Bread should be light brown. After removal from the oven, brush the bread edges with butter to keep them soft. |

Makes about 24. |
